NuWiki Forum Manager Settings

« Previous Chapter   NuWiki Manual
  Next Chapter »

NuWiki uses vBulletin forums to store the latest revision of NuWiki articles.

In order for NuWiki to operate you need to create at least one dedicated 'NuWiki Forum'.

NuWiki Forums are converted from vB forums and will not function as regular forums. It is advised that you create a new forum to hold your NuWiki content.

In addition, if you enable NuWiki Forum Headers, you will need another forum to hold the content of the Forum Headers. While you may use an existing NuWiki Forum, we recommend that you create a separate NuWiki forum to hold your Forum Headers data. If you would like to hide this from from the Forum List shown in FORUMHOME, edit the forum and set 'Forum is Active' to 'No'.

NuWiki Forum Manager Settings

NuWiki Mode for this Forum

This setting can have one of three values:
  • Disabled. This is the default. All forums that will not hold NuWiki articles should be set to this value.
  • Wiki. This indicates that this forum and all its sub-forums will hold NuWiki Articles in Wiki Mode.
  • Articles. This indicates that this forum and all its sub-forums will hold NuWiki Articles in Article Mode.

Wiki Mode

When a Forum is set to 'Wiki Mode', all threads in the forum are used to store NuWiki articles that all users with the right permissions can edit and contribute.

Article Mode

When a Forum is set to 'Article Mode', all threads in the forum are used to store NuWiki articles that only the creator of the article can edit and update.

Article Mode allows your members to create articles that they maintain. Article creators can still take advantage of all other NuWiki features like unlimited revision, article history, rollbacks, etc.

Enable NuWiki Forum Headers

If set to 'Yes', NuWiki Forum Headers will be enabled for this forum. This is the default value upon NuWiki installation.

Notice that Forum Headers will only be shown if:
  • The global setting in the NuWiki Admin CP is enabled.
  • A Forum Id for the forum that will hold the content of Forum Headers has been set in the NuWiki Admin CP.
  • The modifications have been made to the FORUMDISPLAY and/or SHOWTHREAD templates per the NuWiki Installation.

Maximum characters per article.

The maximum number of characters in this wiki's articles can be limited to the same as NuWiki's Global Setting or it can be set to a different value.

Set this value to '0' (zero) to have it follow the NuWiki global configuration. (Default)

Maximum time allowed to edit a NuWiki Article.

Follows the NuWiki global setting if set to '0' (zero). (Default)

(Do you understand this feature? Please wiki-up and explain it here.)

Default NuWiki Forum Id where new NuWiki Articles are created.

The value in this setting determines in which NuWiki forum a new article will be created when a poster clicks "Create New Article". It applies to 'this' forum (for which the value is set) and is relevant whenever there is more than one NuWiki forum configured in a website.

The default setting is zero or empty; forums with this setting will link to and create new pages in the sitewide default wiki.

If you have more than one NuWiki forum defined -- for segregation of topics and/or user groups, for example -- use this setting to override the sitewide default (set in the NuWiki Admin CP) to force new articles started from 'this' forum to be placed in a particular NuWiki forum.

For example; if you have a NuWiki set up for "sports" and another set up for "cooking" you would want new wiki pages created from any of your sports-related forums to appear in your "sports" wiki and, likewise, any wiki articles created from your cooking forums to be created in your "cooking" wiki.

vB Forum Manager settings and NuWiki forum behavior

In addition to the the settings specific to NuWiki, other vBulletin settings will have an effect on NuWiki features and how they behave.

Some settings of interest are:
  • Default Sort Field. You could choose to display Wiki Articles sorted by Title, or by Creator.
  • Default Sort Order.

Multiple NuWiki Forums

You can use multiple NuWiki Forums for categorization of the content. For instance if you have a cell phone wiki, you can have a NuWiki Forum for each platform, or for each product/phone, etc.

In other case you can have a NuWiki Forum for a 'glossary' and use that for NuWiki Auto-Links, and another NuWiki Forum for regular articles.

Or you could have a NuWiki Forum where all members can edit/contribute, and another one where only your 'Editors' (or Premium Members) have access or can edit.
