MediaWiki and Spam Attacks

It is important to ensure that your MediaWiki is properly configured to avoid spamming.

There are multiple ways to accomplish this, some of which are described in this page: http://www.nuhit.com/docs/mediawiki-spamming.html

This page includes instructions on how to change the Wiki permissions using vbWiki Pro, as well as links to external resources on this subject.

Thanks.

Denied access to the link here

When I click the link to the page about controlling access (http://www.nuhit.com/docs/mediawiki-spamming.html) I get a message that says that I must be logged in to see the page.

I seem to be logged in, but, but.... what's happening?

Thanks.

Try again. There was a permission conflict on the CMS.

I posted this question in the "Premium / Other" forum, but maybe should have put it here. It is this:

Is there any way to integrate the bad word / black list management between vB and the wiki? (Or anything in the works? :-)

You can install these extensions and they will not interfere with vbWiki Pro.

However, currently we don't have anything implemented along these lines (integrating these extensions into vbWiki Pro's Admin CP).

Thanks for your always quick reply. Actually it's not the vbWiki Pro controls that I'm thinking of per se, but the common use of lists of unwanted words (whether they are domain names or unpleasantries or whatever).

I'm new enough at vB & the Wiki controls that maybe it's already possible to use a common list. The Mediawiki software uses external lists -- maybe vB does too and I've just not found it yet.

The gist of what I'm after is to only have to enter the unwanted words one time in one place. (Forgive me if it already exists and I've just missed it so far.)

I don't know of an integrated feature.

In vBulletin, you can accomplish what you describe through the Admin CP, they have settings like 'censored words', etc.

In MediaWiki, I remember seeing a couple of extensions that accomplish the same.
